Reading is the Nativity story in Matthew Ch 2 (which includes Old Testament references to Micah 5.2 and Hosea 11.1). This being Christmas the talk included pantomime elements, and in contrast references to Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and the recent siege of Aleppo. ('Herod' here is Herod the Great, whose son Herod Antipas had John the Baptist killed in Mark 6; the quote at the end is Romans 8:28.)
